Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Mavericks have reportedly explored the possibility of acquiring Clippers star Kawhi Leonard as new president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri looks into a potential reunion with the veteran forward.
Ujiri previously orchestrated Leonard’s blockbuster move to Toronto in 2018, a partnership that resulted in the Raptors winning their first NBA championship.
Now, Dallas has emerged as another team evaluating whether a trade for the two-time Finals MVP is possible.
Toronto has also been linked to Leonard, while the Pistons have investigated potential trade scenarios as well.
Reports indicate Leonard would be open to signing a contract extension if traded back to either the Raptors or the Spurs, where he began his NBA career.
His willingness to commit long-term to the Mavericks remains unclear.
Leonard is entering the final year of his contract and is set to earn $50.3 million next season.
Despite ongoing injury concerns in recent years, he enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 campaign, appearing in 65 games while averaging 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.9 steals on efficient 51/39/89 shooting splits.
