Two-time heavyweight world title challenger Luis Ortiz made his ring return last night and scored an eye-catching knockout win, sending his opponent sprawling across the ring and under the ropes. 

A former WBA Interim champion, Cuba’s Ortiz twice challenged Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight world title in 2018 and 2019 in two closely fought battles that ultimately ended in knockout defeats for ‘King Kong’.

However, at the age of 47 years old, Ortiz is hoping to secure himself another fight amongst the heavyweight elite, having boxed on low-profile bills since his 2022 decision defeat to former unified champion Andy Ruiz. 

Since then, Ortiz has scored consecutive first-round KO wins, and yesterday he made his ‘Team Boxing League’ debut, representing Miami in a team-based event where 27 one-round contests took place between fighters from ‘The Sunshine State’ and Nashville.

There, a bleached-blonde Ortiz met with Stephon Moss, whom he outgunned with ease before a straight left-hand sent the 36-year-old novice hurtling across the ring. collapsing to the canvas underneath the ropes, just inches away from dropping to the floor, as shown in the clip from Team Boxing League.

That defeat marked a seventh straight ‘TBL’ loss for the winless Moss, who had never been halted inside of the one-round distance until tasked with Ortiz.

Overall, the Miami Assassin’s defeated the Nashville Smash by a score of 18-9 on the night. That moved Miami to a score of five wins and one defeat for the season, with Nashville falling to a record of 1-4 in what is the fourth season of ‘TBL’.
