LeBron James will not conduct traditional free-agent meetings with interested teams as he decides where to continue his NBA career. Instead, his agent Rich Paul is handling conversations with potential suitors and will present James with the information needed to make his decision.

“As of right now there are no plans for LeBron to engage in any meetings to allow teams to pitch him on the idea of coming to their prospective teams,” NBA insider Chris Haynes said. “His agent Rich Paul is doing all the background work. He’s talking with teams and then he in return he will relay all the intel and data to LeBron James in which LeBron will make a decision.”

The approach comes after James left the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons. James, 41, enters free agency after another productive season. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 51.5% from the field in 60 games during the 2025-26 regular season.

The Lakers finished 53-29, won the Pacific Division and earned the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference. They defeated the Houston Rockets in six games in the first round before being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference semifinals.

James’ departure accelerates Los Angeles’ transition toward its new core. Luka Doncic led the Lakers after averaging 33.5 points, 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds in 64 games, finishing fourth in MVP voting. Austin Reaves also secured his future with the organization by signing a four-year, $185 million maximum extension after averaging career highs of 23.3 points and 5.5 assists.

While James will not meet with teams personally, his market remains extensive. According to reports, 27 of the NBA’s 29 other teams have contacted Paul about James’ availability, with multiple franchises believing they have a legitimate chance to sign the four-time NBA champion.

The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers remain among the most discussed destinations. Golden State’s potential fit centers around James’ relationship with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, while Cleveland represents a return to the franchise where James won the 2016 championship.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets have also been identified as teams with interest. However, several of those teams would need significant financial maneuvering to create a competitive offer.
