“It’s not the same beating someone who isn’t known, a European opponent. It’s not the same facing a real Mexican,” Cruz said during his postfight press conference. “I’m here for the challenge. I’m more than ready. December, May, September, it doesn’t matter. The desire is there, and let’s make it happen.”

That sounded like an acceptance until Cruz heard questions about December. He said the date required discussion with his team and promoter, with his priority centered on arriving in optimal condition.

Ryan’s deadline looks calculated. Cruz has less than three months to recover, negotiate the deal, and complete another camp. If Cruz delays until early 2027, Ryan wins the public narrative by claiming Pitbull wanted no part of him.
