Matchroom cameras caught up with George Kambosos Jr and his team backstage last night, following Kambosos’ eighth round TKO loss to Richardson Hitchins.

Kambosos (22-4, 10 KO) is now 2-4 in his last six fights, following his massive upset of Teofimo Lopez in late 2021, but sounds rightly proud of the schedule he’s kept against high-level opponents.

“Everything’s good, eyes are good. Just caught me with a nice shot,” Kambosos told his team. “I’ve fought the best of them, top of the top. Back to back to back, constantly.”

Kambosos also admitted that it was a familiar punch that ended things.

“Same where Loma landed,” he said. “Same shot in the fourth. It’s just something there. I fought! I was hurt, it did land nice. I just bit down on the mouth guard. And then even when he hit — fuck. Tried my best, got up, I thought I made the count, but...”

At 32, Kambosos says he’ll take some time and figure out his next steps, but he’d be young to retire, and there’s still money to be made in his career, both at home in Australia and as a name opponent abroad.
