Round three of the Motul British Championship continued at Blaxhall Pits. The sun shone and both Gyan and Oliver felt ready for the battles ahead.

For the first time this season the MX2 riders were in one group with 35 riders lining up. Gyan qualified 1st with Oriol not far behind in 3rd, just 0.4 off of his team mate.

In race one Oriol secured the holeshot and set to work putting in the hot laps to break away from the rest of the field, setting the fastest lap of he race. He controlled the race from start to finish and took the win at the chequered flag by over 30 seconds from second.

Gyan started in 5th and was looking sharp in race one, ticking off lap times and applying the pressure on the riders in front of him. He advanced to 4th on lap 7 but thought he had an issue with the bike just 2 laps later. He made a stop in pitlane where they concluded everything was ok with the bike. He rejoined and continued the final stretch of the race but he unfortunately wasn’t able to score any points finishing 27th.

Race two was a replica ride for Oriol as he again dominated the field, setting the fastest lap of the race and stretching his lead out this time to 40+ seconds at the flag. A perfect 1-1 for the overall.

Gyan was again in amongst the action in race two, battling during the whole race. Starting in 5th, advancing to 4th and then making a slight mistake dropping back to 7th. He dug deep in the final laps and reclaimed 5th by the finish. The 16 championship points he secured in race two meant he finished 12th overall on the day.

Oriol: “Perfect day yesterday, going P1 in both motos. Quite satisfying day because after Canada Heights it was not the best day there with that first moto but good to bounce back and finally a podium in the British. I know it’s only 2 rounds that I’ve done but it’s good for the team. Finally we got on the highest step of the podium. Really happy with the bike, I was very comfortable on the track with it. Looking forward to this weekend at the British GP which is the home GP for the team. We keep going, we keep pushing every week and try to be better every weekend.”

Gyan: “Difficult day at Blaxhall. Felt good in practice with P1 but just didn’t feel and ride like myself in the moto’s. First moto I made a big mistake and I’m very ashamed so I want to say a big sorry to the team and all the people! Second moto struggled a lot with the track and bike and two crashes didn’t made it any better. We live and we learn and it’s all part of the learning curve which will make me better in the future. Anyway, can’t wait to go next week in Matterly basin and hopefully we can make it 3 in a row!”

Team Manager Shaun Simpson: “I’ve had my good days and bad days at Blaxhall as a rider and this weekend was a day of two sides for the team.

Oriol was excellent all day. He was calculated in Qualifying when the track was flat, had two great starts and kept his head down. A very professional and convincing win this weekend. He is enjoying riding the bike and you can see that with how he is able to do things that the others weren’t. Looking forward to see what he can do at the British GP next week.

Gyan was excellent in qualifying and looked sharp. Unfortunately two mediocre starts in the races were his downfall and never got in to his groove at all. He thought he had a problem in race one and came in to the Pitlane but after checking everything that wasn’t the case. Moto two was disappointing too as he made two mistakes and riding didn’t look on point. We will have to regroup this week and turn things around for the EMX next weekend.

Thanks to all the sponsors and crew for keeping us rolling. Matterly Basin for the team’s home GP next weekend. See you there!”
