Frank Sanchez (26-1, 19 KOs) knocked out Richard Torrez Jr. (14-1, 12 KOs) in the second round Saturday night at the Pyramids of Giza, handing the unbeaten American his first professional defeat. Sanchez stayed patient behind the jab before ending the IBF heavyweight eliminator with one perfectly timed counter right hand.
Torrez came out pressing from the opening bell, stepping forward and trying to force exchanges with his usual pressure style. Sanchez stayed composed and gave him little to work with, placing the jab and waiting for openings rather than getting pulled into a firefight.
Torrez kept trying to close distance and bring the fight inside, but Sanchez showed discipline with his punch selection. He stayed balanced and let Torrez bring the action to him through the opening round.
The ending came in the second.

As Torrez stepped forward again, Sanchez caught him with a perfectly timed counter right hand that landed flush and dropped the American heavily to the canvas. Torrez attempted to beat the count, but the referee immediately saw he was in no position to continue and waved off the fight.
The finish instantly pushed Sanchez back into the heavyweight picture.
After his stoppage loss to Agit Kabayel slowed his run near the top of the division, Sanchez needed a statement performance. He delivered it with timing, patience, and one punch that changed the entire fight.
The victory moves Sanchez into the IBF mandatory position and puts him back among the leading names at heavyweight, while Torrez absorbs the first defeat of his professional career after getting caught during an exchange before he could settle into his offense.
