The Austrian will be the fifth manager in less than 12 months in the East Midlands, but his experience of winning silverware will have been the crucial factor for Evangelos Marinakis.

It appears as though the Austrian is already getting his ideas across to the Reds players, with his side winning both of their first two pre-season outings without conceding a goal.

Not to mention potential £34m centre-back Ousmane Diomande is set to be added into the mix - which will provide further defensive quality into Glasner’s three-man backline.

However, the midfield department could be next on the manager’s summer shopping list, but he should be desperately steering clear of a move for one big-money talent.

Why Forest should look past a deal for Lucas Bergvall

It’s no secret that Forest have made Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Bergvall their number one target this summer, with the player wanting a move to the City Ground.

However, the biggest stumbling block to any deal could be the price tag, as Roberto De Zerbi’s men have placed a £60m asking price on the Swedish star’s head.

There’s no disputing that the 20-year-old midfielder is a top talent and one for the future, but there’s no way the Reds should be pursuing a move at his current price point.

He’s a player who has constantly struggled with injury issues, which has seen Bergvall only start 22 out of a possible 76 league games across the last two seasons.

Whilst he’s primarily a ball-playing option, the youngster only managed to create a measly tally of 0.4 chances created per 90 last term - ranking him in the bottom 7% of midfielders in the Premier League.

Even out of possession. He was unable to have a positive impact on proceedings - as seen by his lowly tally of 0.1 interceptions made per 90, with 80% of players in his position achieving more.

Such numbers showcase he’s a different style of midfielder to the recently departed Elliot Anderson, with the hierarchy desperately needing to put effort into landing another option.

Why Forest’s £25m target would be a better signing than Bergvall

Despite Forest’s ongoing hunt for a new midfielder, other areas of the pitch are set to be bolstered as Glasner targets an impressive first campaign at the helm.

Feyenoord wing-back Givairo Read has once again emerged on the Reds’ shortlist, with reports from the Netherlands stating a second offer has been made in recent days.

The attacking department may also see a new arrival in the near future, as Glasner is said to be targeting a reunion with Crystal Palace talisman Jean-Philippe Mateta.

It’s been reported by Football Insider that Forest are readying a fresh offer for the French international, who only has one year left on his current deal at Selhurst Park.

They also claim a £25m bid could be enough to secure the signature of the 29-year-old, who previously appeared on the club’s radar back in the January window.

Glasner already has a whole host of strikers on the books at the City Ground, with the likes of Chris Wood, Taiwo Awoniyi and Igor Jesus all offering different playstyles for the manager.

However, like with the midfield department, he may want to put his own stamp on the forward line, which could make a move for Mateta a distinct possibility this summer.

His experience and proven quality in the Premier League would make him a better addition than Bergvall - subsequently securing his place as the club’s starting striker.

Mateta, who’s been dubbed a “monster” by Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher, has netted a staggering 52 goals across all competitions in the last three seasons.

He even managed to register 12 goals in England’s top-flight last campaign - a tally only bettered by midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White at the City Ground.

Beyond his incredible goalscoring numbers, the Palace star also caught the eye with his tremendous hold-up play - subsequently winning 2.7 aerial duels per 90 throughout 2025/26.

His ability in the air could see him be the perfect focal point for Glasner’s side - not to mention being the perfect fit for his system given his previous time operating under the Austrian.

£25m for a player with his Premier League experience and calibre in front of goal would be yet another tremendous piece of business by the Reds hierarchy.

There’s no denying that a move for Bergvall would generate excitement, but splashing £60m on an injury-prone youngster could prove to come back to bite the Reds.

Mateta is undoubtedly a better option for the club this summer, with the Frenchman able to play an immediate key role in the club’s fresh hunt for silverware.
