Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bolster their attacking ranks before the summer transfer window officially slams shut at the start of September.

They have already added Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali to their midfield, as well as Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Jan Paul van Hecke to their defence, but they have yet to make a marquee signing for the attack.

One player who has emerged as a target for the Lilywhites is Liverpool left winger Cody Gakpo, who could find himself down the pecking order at Anfield if they sign PSG star Bradley Barcola.

Spurs will need to spend a fee of £60m to prise him away from Andoni Iraola's side, though, and it remains to be seen whether or not they are willing to pay that price.

The 27-year-old attacker is an attractive target at face value because he is a proven Premier League performer who has scored 32 goals in 127 appearances in the division, winning the title in the 2024/25 campaign.

However, the Lilywhites should avoid a mega-money deal for the Netherlands international because of his regression on the pitch in a Liverpool shirt over the past couple of seasons.

Gakpo showed flashes of quality in their title-winning campaign, reaching double figures for both goals and 'big chances' created, but was unable to kick on last season.

The Dutchman scored three fewer goals and failed to create as many 'big chances' for his teammates in the Premier League, despite playing just over 800 more minutes.

His declining output at the top end of the pitch after being given a more integral role in the team should be a red flag for Spurs as they look at him as a possible marquee addition to their attack.

Spurs in talks to sign a bigger talent than Cody Gakpo

Instead of paying £60m to sign Gakpo from Liverpool, Roberto De Zerbi should push the club to bring in another one of their targets to bolster the forward line.

TEAMtalk reports that Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs who could hijack Paris Saint-Germain's deal to sign Ajax winger Mika Godts for £51m this summer.

The outlet claims that ENIC have been contacted about the possibility of a swoop for the Belgian ace, having been in ongoing talks with his representatives throughout the transfer window.

It adds, though, that Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool are in the same boat and could also decide to make a move for the talented youngster in the coming weeks.

ENIC should take up this opportunity to sign the 21-year-old left winger for De Zerbi because he is an even bigger talent than Gakpo, and would be a better addition to the squad.

Whilst he is unproven in the Premier League, the Belgium international's exceptional form in the 2025/26 campaign suggests that he has the potential to be a terrific player for the club.

Godts racked up more goals, more 'big chances' created, and more assists than any of Tottenham's player or Gakpo managed in the Premier League last term.

In fact, Liverpool's Dutch winger has never scored more than 13 league goals or created as many as 14 'big chances' in his entire club career, even across more than four years with PSV in the Netherlands.

Godts, therefore, is currently a bigger talent than Gakpo ever was during his time in the Eredivisie, as he has already produced more individual quality in a single season than the Dutchman ever has.

At the age of 21, he is also six years younger than the Liverpool forward and would arrive in North London with more resale value and more long-term potential for De Zerbi to unlock.

The Belgian wing wizard, therefore, could be a far better signing for the club in both the short and the long-term, due to his ability to score and create goals and his potential to develop further.

That is why ENIC should avoid a £60m deal for Gakpo and, instead, hijack PSG's £51m move for the Ajax youngster to be their marquee signing on the left wing.
