BANGKOK, Thailand — Candon City Mayor and Filipino sports patron Eric Singson, a new member of the AVC Board, will serve as chairman of the Asian Volleyball Confederation Solidarity Fund, bringing decades of public-service leadership and long-standing support for volleyball into a role focused on strengthening assistance initiatives for AVC member federations.

The appointment was approved by the AVC Board of Administration, with Singson set to serve a two-year term from September 1, 2026, to September 1, 2028.

Singson brings extensive experience in government and community development. He first entered public service as mayor of Candon in 1972 at the age of 23, making him one of the youngest mayors in the Philippines at the time. He later served multiple terms in the Philippine Congress, representing his district.

His long record in public service has included work in local development, infrastructure, health care, tourism promotion, livelihood programs and community-focused initiatives — experience that complements the Solidarity Fund’s mission of extending support across AVC member federations.

AVC cited Singson’s leadership experience, strategic vision and commitment to community development as key qualities that will support the work of the Solidarity Fund. The Confederation also recognized his strong involvement in volleyball, particularly through Candon City’s successful hosting of the SEA V. League for two consecutive years and the AVC Women’s Cup.

As chairman, Singson will help guide the AVC Solidarity Fund as it works to strengthen and distribute support initiatives across the Confederation’s member federations. His role as a new AVC Board member also places him among the leaders contributing to the Confederation’s broader governance and development efforts.

AVC President Ramon Suzara welcomed Singson’s appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to the continued growth of the sport across the region.

“Your extensive leadership experience, strategic vision, and commitment to community development will be invaluable as we work to strengthen and distribute support initiatives throughout our member federations,” Suzara said in the official appointment letter.

He also highlighted Singson’s contribution to volleyball development through Candon City’s hosting of major events.

“Your outstanding track record in championing the sport—most notably through Candon City’s successful hosting of the SEA V. League for two consecutive years and the AVC Women’s Cup—demonstrates a profound dedication to the volleyball community that aligns perfectly with the mission of this position,” Suzara said.

The AVC said it looks forward to Singson’s leadership of the Solidarity Fund and the role it can play in supporting the continued development of volleyball across Asia.
