Everton are looking to kick off their transfer window in style this summer, setting their sights on an impressive young midfielder who is on the radar of several clubs around Europe.
Everton racing to sign in-demand midfielder
The Toffees have plenty to build on in the coming months. David Moyes will have his full focus set on qualifying for European football next season after finishing just points away from the top eight this season. Whilst many are still disappointed about missing out, the potential in this current side is there for all to see.
The Friedkin Group haven't been afraid to back their man, either. They spent big on the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tyler Dibling and Thierno Barry last summer and whilst not all have worked out, the intention was certainly there. Now, one year later, the Everton owners could be about to splash the cash yet again.
To that end, names such as Hayden Hackney have threatened to steal the biggest headlines. After failing to earn promotion with Middlesbrough, the midfielder could finally be on his way to the Premier League, with the Toffees emerging as early frontrunners.
That said, Hackney isn't the only midfielder on the shortlist in Merseyside. According to SportsBoom, Everton are readying a serious move to sign Cesare Casadei this summer.
The Torino star is one of the most in-demand players in Europe. Brighton, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, AS Monaco and Sporting CP are all chasing his signature, but it's Everton who are preparing a concrete move.
Torino won't be surprised by the amount of interest in their star. The former Chelsea man has been excellent in Italy and already has a route back to the Premier League as a result.
"Powerful" Casadei can replace Idrissa Gueye
Hackney, Casadei, Dewsbury-Hall, James Garner. It's quite the midfield, isn't it? If anything highlights Everton's intentions, it is their targets at the heart of Moyes' side.
All four players are at the peak of their powers and Casadei's arrival would provide Everton with the perfect replacement for the ageing Idrissa Gueye. The 36-year-old has been as reliable as ever in his second spell at the club, but there's no denying that the end of his career is likely approaching.
That swings the door open for Casadei and at a bargain price to match. Reports have claimed that Torino are set to demand just €30m (£26m) to sell the 23-year-old this summer.

Dubbed "powerful" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Casadei is an all-round midfield star. He's happy to act as a box-crasher, whilst also showcasing defensive strength. At 6'4 on top of that, the Italian's height is an asset in itself. He's someone that Everton will not want to miss out on.
