Chris Eubank Jr appears to be back in hot water with the British Boxing Board of Control. Leading into his showdown with Conor Benn in April, Eubank had already been at odds with the British regulatory body for his ill-manned use of eggs at the fight’s press conference. That stunt would subject him to a £100,000 fine in addition to the roughly half-million fine he had to pay Benn for not making weight.

But now there’s been word that Eubank Jr had used a sauna in an attempt to make the 160 lb weight limit, something that is banned by the British Board for physical safety reasons. Now Eubank Jr is expected to appear in front of the BBBofC next month to see what if any disciplinary actions he will face.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who still hopes to stage a Eubank vs Benn rematch in the near future, tells Sky Sports that Eubank’s move may have come back to bite him.

“I think Eubank wanted to make a scene of how difficult it was for him to make his own weight and how terrible it was that he had to go through these conditions and so forth,” Hearn told Sky Sports News. “But it came back to bite him in the jacksie.

“It’s just a standard board procedure that any fighter deemed to be using a sauna, which is not permitted within its rules, will be brought before the British Boxing Board of Control.”

Whether or not Eubank Jr ends up facing some additional fine or the like, he’s still secured his win over Benn in their first fight and has the prospect of making a lot more money in a sequel.
