Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDaniel Dubois says he is prepared to move on and defend his WBO heavyweight title elsewhere if Fabio Wardley is unable to return quickly enough for their contracted rematch.
Wardley exercised the rematch clause less than a week after Dubois stopped him in the 11th round last month to claim the WBO belt. The former champion must still agree on a date, though questions remain about how soon he can return after the punishment he absorbed during the fight. Dubois made it clear he has no intention of putting his career on hold.
“I’m not going to wait on no one,” Dubois told TalkSPORT. “I’m going to get busy with that belt and defend that belt. I can’t wait to start improving and maximizing what I’ve been working on since I was a little kid.”
Dubois also believes there is much more to come from him, even after producing one of the year’s most dramatic heavyweight victories.
“I expect to be a lot better, an improved version of myself now that I’m champion. It’s time to go and clean up this division again. I’m on my journey to getting all the belts and securing my legacy,” said Dubois.
“I would maybe have [preferred to fight] someone else, travel with that belt. But if we’ve got to do it again, we’ll do it again.”
The first fight saw Dubois survive two early knockdowns before turning the contest around and forcing a stoppage in the 11th round.
“It’s a fight, man. You get in the shower, you’re going to get wet. I had to roll with the punches. It was a great fight, though I enjoyed it,” said Dubois.
“When you’re in a fight, you can feel it [when your opponent is starting to fade]. But shout out to him, he’s a great gladiator and a great warrior. He put on a spectacular fight. It takes two to tango.”
