The Scottish champions completed six signings in little more than a day as Martin O’Neill finally received the reinforcements he had been demanding.

Oliver Sørensen began the rush by arriving from Parma on loan, with Celtic securing an option to purchase the Danish midfielder permanently.

The six latest arrivals have taken Celtic’s total number of summer signings to ten, and that extraordinary late activity has followed several important departures.

Reo Hatate completed a permanent transfer to Burnley, which could be worth up to £9 million, and Johnny Kenny joined Preston North End before the English deadline.

Arne Engels had already signed for West Ham, while Paulo Bernardo moved to Górnik Zabrze on loan.

Those exits have completely changed the shape of Celtic’s midfield and explain why the club may not be finished yet.

O’Neill confirmed after the Aberdeen victory that he remained interested in adding another player, even if the new arrival missed the European registration deadline.

Celtic submitted their initial Europa League squad on Wednesday night, but Scotland’s domestic window remains open until 17:00 today.

Torino had been demanding around £8.7 million, but are now believed to be willing to accept a lower figure.

Gineitis nevertheless started Torino’s Coppa Italia defeat against Monza on Tuesday and has remained involved with the first team throughout the talks.

The 22-year-old is a tall, left-footed central midfielder who can contribute in both directions. He would give Celtic physical presence, proven ball carrying and greater defensive solidity through the middle.

He clinched the Lithuanian Footballer of the Year award in both 2024 and 2025, whilst amassing 31 appearances in all competitions for Torino last season.

There have been conflicting reports about whether the move had collapsed after Celtic failed to meet Torino’s earlier terms.

However, the latest Italian update maintains that an agreement is still possible.
