It was over 15 years ago when Carmelo Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks in a major multi-team trade with the Denver Nuggets.

The Hall of Famer revealed the real recruiting pitch happened during his wedding in 2010 summer, and it was through Amar’e Stoudemire, who had just signed at that time.

Anthony said that Stoudemire recruited him to join the Knicks, while Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke was present at the event.

“My wedding was in New York that summer… He had just signed. Come to the wedding. We on a boat, we had the boat party. We pull up in front of the Statue of Liberty… It was just me and him,” Anthony said, via the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast. 

The 10-time All-Star admitted it was the pitch they wanted since their younger days, and it was the perfect time to make it happen. 

 “It was like a real recruiting pitch… We’ve been wanting to do this since high school. This is the time… We got a chance to do this in New York. You know what? F*ck it. Like, I’m sold,” he added.

Despite Anthony still being with the Nuggets in summer 2010, the crowd chanted with the Knicks side, while the Denver owner was in the crowd. 

“My wedding, they was yelling… Stan Kroenke was in the crowd. They kept saying, ‘New York! New York!’ at the wedding… Stan Kroenke was like, ‘God damn it’,” Anthony added.

Anthony had seven seasons with New York and earned his 62-point career high, while also being the scoring champion in the 2012-13 season.
