Honda reached another milestone this weekend, recording its 800th professional motocross victory at Washougal. The number reflects more than 50 years of racing success across AMA Motocross, Supercross, and SMX with dozens of riders contributing to the total.

Marty Smith started Honda’s winning tradition in the 1970s.

Honda’s winning history dates back to the 1970s when Marty Smith helped put the CR line on the map with back-to-back AMA 125 National Championships. Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, riders like David Bailey, Rick Johnson, Jeff Stanton, Jean-Michel Bayle, Johnny O’Mara, Donnie Hansen, and Steve Lamson continued adding wins and championships as Honda became one of the sport’s most successful manufacturers.

Ricky Carmichael delivered two perfect outdoor seasons during his three years with Honda.

One of Honda’s most dominant stretches came with Ricky Carmichael, who raced for the factory team from 2002 through 2004. During those three seasons, Carmichael won three straight AMA Motocross Championships, two Supercross titles, and completed perfect outdoor seasons in both 2002 and 2004. His success accounted for a significant portion of Honda’s overall win total.

More recently, riders such as Ken Roczen, Chase Sexton, Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Jo Shimoda, Chance Hymas, and Tim Gajser have continued adding to Honda’s record. Gajser has carried Honda’s banner in the FIM Motocross World Championship, while the Lawrence brothers have led Honda’s current success in AMA Pro Motocross.

Known as the “King of Supercross,” Jeremy McGrath also contributed 15 AMA motocross wins to Honda’s record.

Although the motorcycles have evolved from the CR two-strokes of the 1970s and ’80s to today’s CRF four-strokes, Honda has remained a fixture at the front of the pack through multiple generations of racers. Eight hundred wins is a milestone few manufacturers have reached, and with Honda’s current lineup still collecting victories, that number will continue to grow.
