Bill Haney posted on social media that he’s “looking for” WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. or his dad. Fans are skeptical that Bill might be interested in lining up a fight for his son, Devin, after the way he performed last month against Jose Ramirez on the Times Square card in New York City.
Sink or Swim Match?
Could Bill be desperate enough to throw Devin (32-0, 15 KOs) in with Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) in a sink or swim type of fight? It would be one way for Haney, 26, to disprove the belief that some fans have that he’s still traumatized from his loss to Ryan Garcia in 2024. If Haney wants to prove that he’s not shell-shocked and mentally shattered, fighting Norman Jr. would show that he’s willing to return to the frontlines to risk his hide.
This isn’t Regis Prograis that Devin is fighting if he challenged Brian Norman Jr. for his WBO belt. Bill couldn’t count on Norman Jr. being old and washed. He’s 24, two years younger than Devin.
The way Devin fought Ramirez had Tim Bradley suspecting that he’s got PTSD, and is broken mentally from that beating at the hands of Ryan at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Norman Jr. Knockout Warning
Norman Jr’s fifth-round knockout of challenger Jun Sasaki on June 19th should have been enough to scare Bill Haney away for good. He knocked Sasaki out cold with a left hook, and he had to be taken out of the ring on a stretcher.
Lopez Fight Fell Apart
Bill wanted to match Devin against Teofimo Lopez in what would have been a big-money fight on one of Turki Alalshikh’s cards. However, Lopez didn’t like the way it looked and was worried about being robbed. So, he backed out rather than take the chance of losing a controversial decision.
Haney is in a tough spot because there aren’t any popular fighters who are free and available to fight him right now. He can’t afford to wait for Ryan to come back from his loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, because he looks like he may take some time off to regroup.
You don’t have to look for nobody. I’ll pull up on yall too https://t.co/fPG8Menda3
