Arman Tsarukyan is having some fun with the idea of repeating history with a Zinedine Zidane-esque headbutt during the UFC 331 weigh-ins.

When Tsarukyan and Dan Hooker went face-to-face during the UFC Qatar weigh-ins back in Nov. 2025, fans expected there to be some hostility, but what transpired caught many off guard. Tsarukyan put the fight in danger when he headbutted “The Hangman.” The bout went on, and Tsarukyan scored a submission win, but there were consequences.

During an interview with UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, Tsarukyan confirmed blowing a lightweight title shot thanks to his pre-fight actions.

“Yeah, headbutt changed my plans,” Tsarukyan admitted.

When Bisping asked if the headbutting is a thing of the past, “Batman” playfully teased going rogue yet again when he meets his UFC 331 opponent Mauricio Ruffy face-to-face during the weigh-ins.

“You never know,” Tsarukyan said. “Hopefully nothing.”

Tsarukyan has had his share of incidents outside of competition, and UFC CEO Dana White told reporters that issues behind the scenes have held the top-ranked lightweight back. White seems to have warmed up to Tsarukyan over the past few months. If Tsarukyan wins in impressive fashion on Saturday and plays his cards right, he might end up challenging Justin Gaethje for the 155-pound gold.

Going into Saturday’s event, Tsarukyan is the No. 2-ranked UFC lightweight on both the Meta and media rankings panels. He has long been viewed as the true No. 1 contender in the eyes of most fight fans and experts, but he might be able to finally seal the deal this weekend.
