The Angels have re-signed Shaun Anderson to a new minor league contract, according to the right-hander’s MLB.com profile page.  Anderson makes another quick return to the organization after opting for free agency on Wednesday over an outright assignment to Triple-A.

This has been the pattern for Anderson’s last two seasons, since he first signed a minors deal with Anaheim back in February 2025.  The righty exhausted his minor league options in 2024 while pitching with the Marlins, so Anderson has since been acting as an unofficial 27th man for the Halos.

Since his contract was selected to the Angels’ active roster in May 2025, Anderson has been designated for assignment and outrighted six times — thrice in 2025, and thrice this season.  On all of those occasions, Anderson has declined the outright assignment after clearing waivers and then opted for free agency, only to re-sign with Los Angeles on another minors deal within a few days’ time.

Both sides clearly seem content with the situation, and Anderson has appeared in 19 MLB games in 2025-26 while being shuttled on and off the 26-man (or 28-man, here in September) as a fresh arm in the bullpen.  The lack of results may also explain why Anderson has had trouble sticking on the active roster — Anderson has an 8.62 ERA over his 31 1/3 innings as an Angel, including a 7.65 ERA in 20 frames this year.  His last MLB appearance was on August 9, when he was charged with six runs over a disastrous inning of work in the Angels’ 12-3 loss to the Marlins.

It remains to be seen if the 31-year-old Anderson will get another cup of coffee in the Show before 2026 is over, as the Angels are surely focusing on auditioning some younger pitchers as they play out the string in September.  If Anderson’s contract is selected again, it will likely be for just another game or two if Los Angeles finds itself in a bullpen crunch.
