Amen Thompson and the Houston Rockets have agreed to a five-year, $208 million rookie scale contract extension. The deal includes a 10 percent trade kicker.

Thompson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft out of Overtime Elite.

In 79 games in 2025-26 during his age-22 season, Thompson averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals while also being one of the NBA's best perimeter defenders. Thompson shot just 21.6 percent on three-pointers as that part of his game continues to lag in his development.

Thompson joins Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr. as young parts of Houston's core under long-term contracts.

Thompson becomes the second player from his draft class to sign a contract extension following Victor Wembanyama's five-year, $252 million extension with the San Antonio Spurs in mid-July.
