After two games and two draws in the new Premier League season, the Liverpool faithful have yet to see the best of Andoni Iraola’s system on Merseyside.

Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest saw the Reds salvage a late point once again, after finding themselves behind on two separate occasions for the second time in a week.

The Spaniard undoubtedly needs time to settle into the role at Anfield, with the players needing to adapt to the demands of his high-intensity and relentless philosophy.

However, one player appears to have already made huge strides under the new boss, with the Reds star making an immediate impact under Iraola in his first two outings.

Why Munoz could prove to be a bargain for Liverpool

As part of the summer recruitment drive at Liverpool, the hierarchy completed the £34.5m signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna.

The Reds hijacked Newcastle United’s move for the 23-year-old, with such a decision already proving to be a masterstroke by Iraola and his management team.

He’s featured for 117 minutes in the Premier League to date, subsequently having an immediate impact - as seen against the Magpies and on Saturday against Oliver Glasner’s men.

Munoz won the penalty for the Reds in the final minutes of the clash against Matthias Jaissle’s side, whilst finding the top corner to salvage a point at Anfield this weekend.

As a result, the youngster now has the joint-highest goal contribution tally of any player in the senior ranks, which could see him become one of the first names on the team sheet.

Bradley Barcola’s pending move to Merseyside could see the Spaniard shift to the right-hand side on a more consistent basis to gain valuable first-team minutes.

However, there’s no guarantee the hierarchy don’t add another offensive option off such a flank before the window slams shut on Tuesday evening.

After Mohamed Salah’s departure at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, it was vital Liverpool landed a replacement who could soften the blow and fill the void left by the Egyptian.

Brighton & Hove Albion star Yankuba Minteh has consistently been touted as one transfer target, but his £80m asking price is seen as too steep - resulting in another option being considered.

As a result, Crystal Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr has emerged as the latest player touted with a late summer move to join Iraola’s revolution on Merseyside.

According to Senegalese journalist Khadim Diakhaté, Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of the Crystal Palace star and are readying an offer of up to £68m to entice the Eagles to sell. He is now their top target to replace Cody Gakpo.

It’s unclear how much a deal for the 28-year-old could cost before the summer deadline, with the Reds already having an opening offer of £50m rejected for the attacker.

However, he would provide an immediate quality option to the Spaniard’s side at Anfield, with his stats from last season showcasing his quality in the Premier League.

Sarr ended the 2025/26 campaign with 21 goals in his 45 appearances across all competitions, subsequently managing to outscore new addition Munoz during such a period.

His tally of nine goals in the league was higher than that of 23-year-old in Spain's top-division, which could see Iraola land a more clinical option with a move for the Palace star.

Alongside his incredible goalscoring ability, Sarr also managed to create more chances per 90 last term - which could hand the likes of Barcola an extra opportunity to star in front of goal.

Even on the international stage, the £70k-per-week winger has delivered on a bigger scale, with Sarr managing to net four goals in his four games at the recent World Cup.

Such a record was undoubtedly better than Munoz, who failed to feature for a single minute in America, backing up Sadio Mane’s claim that he’s already a "world-class" talent.

A move for the Palace star would hand the club a Premier League-proven option within attacking areas to help the manager in his quest for success on Merseyside.

There’s no doubting Munoz is a long-term project for the Reds, with the Spaniard able to learn off the Senegalese international should he complete his own move in the coming days.
