Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayClaggett entered the fight with a reputation as one of the division’s toughest veterans. The Canadian pressure fighter had gone the distance with Teofimo Lopez in a world title fight and had only been stopped once during a lengthy professional career.
Azim changed that narrative in less than three rounds. The 23-year-old southpaw established control immediately in the opening round. Using quick feet and sharp angles, he repeatedly beat Claggett to the punch while avoiding most of the veteran’s pressure attacks.
Azim found success with the jab early before mixing in body shots and uppercuts. A right hook around Claggett’s guard landed cleanly, and several uppercuts snapped the Canadian’s head backward. Claggett continued trying to walk forward, but he struggled to close the distance against Azim’s movement and hand speed.
By the end of the round, Claggett appeared to be dealing with damage to his nose and was already showing signs of wear.
The second round was where the fight began to unravel. Azim increased the pace and started throwing with more authority. Midway through the round, he connected with a beautifully timed right uppercut before following with a right hook that sent Claggett crashing to the canvas.
The veteran beat the count and showed the toughness that has defined his career, but he was clearly hurt.
Sensing the opportunity, Azim immediately jumped on him. Combinations poured in from every angle as Claggett tried to survive. Blood began to appear across the Canadian’s face as he absorbed heavy punishment. He managed to stay upright and reach the bell, but it was obvious the fight had shifted heavily in Azim’s favor. The end came in the third.
Azim attacked from the outset and never allowed Claggett a chance to recover. Right hooks, uppercuts, and fast multi-punch combinations repeatedly found the target. Claggett was pinned against the ropes several times as Azim unloaded.
Although Claggett refused to go down, the punishment was becoming increasingly severe. His face was covered in blood, and he offered little in return as Azim continued landing cleanly.
With roughly 2:09 remaining in the round, the referee stepped in and waved off the contest while Claggett was still standing, ending the one-sided contest before additional damage could be inflicted.
The stoppage was only the second of Claggett’s professional career. Afterward, Azim thanked his team, supporters, and opponent before making it clear that he wants a shot at an IBF world title. Trainer Shane McGuigan and promoter Ben Shalom were equally enthusiastic about the performance, praising the young contender’s speed, timing, and finishing ability.
Questions about Azim’s readiness for world-level have followed him throughout his rise. Performances like this are making those questions harder to ask.
Claggett arrived promising pressure, toughness, and experience. Azim answered with speed, precision, and power. It was a showcase performance from one of British boxing’s most promising young fighters.
Result: Adam Azim def. Steve Claggett via TKO, Round 3 (2:09).
