The small brand has been producing bikes with big wheels for years. As the name would imply, DirtySixer actually started out with 36″ wheeled bikes for the exceptionally tall, and then started to produce 32″ wheeled bikes for tall-but-not-Shaq-tall riders in various sizes (and even opened his own mold for tires with Vee).
Talking with David Folch, the founder of DirtySixer, it sounds like the future of the brand may actually lean towards 32″ wheels for production bikes. There will still be an ebike option with 36″ wheels, but with the coming prevalence of 32″ wheel options, a wider potential market, and the ability to build frames with fewer compromises due to the huge 36″ wheels, the shift makes sense.
Of course, DirtySixer will not have to give up on custom one-off builds with the gargantuan wheels like this 36″ full suspension bike that David made for himself to tackle MegaAvalanche. That’s right, David will be lining up for the legendary mass start on a full suspension mountain bike with 36″ wheels… and just 120/80mm of travel.


When it comes to building a full suspension bike with 36″ wheels, there are some obvious constraints with the wheel size, axle path, and seat post position. Built with an I-beam-like strut from the BB to the rocker link pivot, the seat tube then leans backwards to get the saddle in the right position for David’s saddle height. Combined with the 36″ wheels, David seems to think that 80mm of rear travel will be plenty.

Up front, a custom dual-crown fork is used to provide 120mm of travel. The fork uses legs that are readily available with dual front brake mounts, but it uses custom triple clamps made by DirtySixer to adapt to the 150mm front axle spacing.


A Tektro Twin+ front brake is used along with dual 223mm rotors for truly massive stopping power.


Matching the fatbike-spaced front hub is a 197 x 12mm rear hub, both to provide proper triangulation for the spokes on the huge wheels.

The bike rolls on Vee Tire Co. T-Monster tires in 36 x 2.25″ casing with DirtySixer’s own custom extruded, triple-wall aluminum rims.

David has no current plans to sell the 36″ bike, but if you have to have one, custom builds are always an option.
32″ Bikes Too

Just before the show, DirtySixer announced pre-orders for what they consider to be the first mass-production 32″ hardtail MTB, which was on display as well. David also hinted at a 32″ full suspension bike and a 32″ hardtail ebike that are in the works.

The eDirtySixer Bosch is also available in 32″ or 36″ wheels, from XL-4XL for $8,999.
