Two of the players that had a big hand in improving the Yankees’ defense this season are officially among the league’s best.

Max Fried and Ryan McMahon were named Gold Glove finalists Wednesday, Fried for American League pitchers and McMahon for National League third basemen after spending the majority of the season with the Rockies.

The athletic Fried, who takes a great deal of pride in defending his position well, led all major league pitchers with 10 Defensive Runs Saved this season.

The left-hander is already a three-time Gold Glove winner, his last one coming in 2022 with the Braves.

McMahon, meanwhile, solidified the hot corner for the Yankees after coming over at the trade deadline and went a long way in settling their overall infield defense.

His 10 Defensive Runs Saved ranked fourth among all major league third basemen.

This marks the fifth straight season in which McMahon has been a Gold Glove finalist, though he has not yet won one.

The Yankees’ last Gold Glove winner was shortstop Anthony Volpe in 2023.
