Ex-NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White will not be eligible to play in the WNBA despite declaring themselves eligible for the draft, according to Front Office Sports.

A league source described their declarations as “simply publicity stunts” and said the WNBA is “not going to give oxygen to efforts designed to mock the league or use this topic to demean and marginalize others.”

The source added that the league “will not allow outside pressure or manufactured controversy to dictate league processes.”

The WNBA’s new collective bargaining agreement states, “Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA.”

However, the agreement does not specifically address gender identity or sex assigned at birth.

Freedom and White declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft earlier this month amid the ongoing debate over men’s athletes in women’s sports.

The development comes shortly after Freedom was removed from Sunday’s Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever game following a verbal confrontation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

Freedom later reacted to his removal on social media, writing, “I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!”

The league has not announced any ban preventing Freedom from attending future WNBA games.

Chicago police also said no report was filed regarding Sunday’s incident.
