Since making a delivery adjustment, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Sean Burke has been a dominant force across his last eight starts, boasting a 1.42 ERA with a 0.87 WHIP and 67 strikeouts across 50 2/3 innings pitched.

Burke adjusted by keeping his shoulders closed during his delivery versus turning his torso too early. He's also improved his arm alignment, which has produced better velocity. 

The 26-year-old right-hander has been performing like an ace, and on the season, he is sporting a 7-5 record with a 3.04 ERA with 140 strikeouts and a 1.10 WHIP. The White Sox lead the AL Central by two games over the Cleveland Guardians with a 57-51 record. 

In his most recent performance on July 30 against the New York Yankees, he was stellar, pitching six dominant scoreless innings while giving up three hits, two walks and striking out 10 in a 2-1 walk-off victory. A key element to his dominance was an increased usage (62 percent) of his slider. 

The key to Sean Burke's success this season

Burke has put up a solid performance in July with a 1.14 ERA, a 0.76 WHIP and 45 strikeouts across 31 2/3 innings pitched. 

In July, he's also unleashed five straight quality starts and three double-digit strikeout performances. Since May 26, Burke ranks second with a 33.5 percent strikeout rate and deserves more attention for the gems he's been tossing. 

For the first time in Burke's career, he recorded back-to-back starts (July 25 and July 30) with 10 strikeouts, which is a huge feat. He's also logged three games generating 18 or more whiffs this season. 

With the way he has been performing, he's sure to be a weapon in the postseason for the White Sox. His 27.7 percent strikeout rate sits in the 82nd percentile, and the youngster has generated a ton of swing-and-miss with his slider that's produced a 37.4 percent whiff rate this season.
