The Chicago White Sox blew an 8-2 lead in an 11-8 loss to the Detroit Tigers in the second of a four-game series on Friday night. With the loss, the White Sox fell one game behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central. Cleveland rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the A's, 5-3, on Friday.

The White Sox lead the third American League wild card by a game over the Texas Rangers. Earlier on Friday, the White Sox announced that their game on Saturday was moved to 1:10 p.m. Central Daylight Time, with rain forecasted for later in the day. The Tigers and White Sox conclude their four-game series on Sunday at 1:10 p.m.

The A's and Cleveland play at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday and conclude their series on Sunday at 12:40 p.m. Toronto is at Texas at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Jays and Rangers finish their series at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday. Toronto is still in the race for the third wild card, two games behind the White Sox.

After Detroit scored a run in the top of the first inning Friday, the White Sox scored six in the bottom of the frame. A Colson Montgomery double scored Chase Meidroth, Kyle Teel and Brenton Doyle to extend the White Sox's lead to 5-1. A Miguel Vargas double made it 6-1 White Sox.

How White Sox collapsed against the Tigers

After Detroit scored one in the third inning, Montgomery and Vargas added their second RBI doubles of the game to increase the White Sox's lead to 8-2. As they did on Thursday, the White Sox could not score late in the game to extend the lead. On Thursday, the White Sox bullpen kept Detroit scoreless.

Detroit scored three runs in the fifth inning, added a single run in the sixth and flipped an 8-6 deficit into an 11-8 lead with a five-run eighth. Leadoff hitter Kevin McGonigle had four hits in five at-bats, a run scored and four RBIs for Detroit. Hao-Yu Lee also had four hits in five at-bats, two runs scored and three RBIs out of the ninth spot for Detroit.

Breaking down remaining schedule for White Sox, other contenders

The White Sox play three games at the Kansas City Royals before returning home to host the Colorado Rockies in the final three contests to conclude the regular season. Cleveland plays three at the Boston Red Sox before traveling to Kansas City to finish the season.

Texas finishes the season with three games at home against the New York Mets before finishing the season at the Minnesota Twins. Toronto plays three at the Baltimore Orioles, who are three games behind the White Sox for the final wild card, and three against the Cincinnati Reds to finish the season.
