The Los Angeles Dodgers are going through their worst stretch of the season.

Back-to-back sweeps at the hands of the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs has Los Angeles on its first six-game losing streak since July of last season.

With a comfortable eight-game lead in the NL West, losing control of the division is not in jeopardy, but playoff seeding and a potential first-round bye is on the line.

The pitching staff has been shelled

Over their previous six games, the Dodgers have allowed 42 runs, nearly double their run total of 22 in that stretch. 

Boston and Chicago each scored seven-plus runs in four of their six wins against Los Angeles, a major indication of poor pitching. The 42 runs are tied for the most the Dodgers have allowed in any six-game stretch this season.

The offense hasn't exactly been stellar either

As noted above, Los Angeles has only managed to score 22 runs during its six-game losing streak. For an offense with as much superstar talent as the Dodgers have, a stretch of 22 runs in six games almost feels unfathomable.

MVP front-runner Shohei Ohtani and first baseman Freddie Freeman have been two of the only consistent hitters during the losing streak. Besides those two, not many players in the lineup have consistently been productive.

More than likely, the Dodgers will be fine

With 47 games remaining in the regular season, it feels fairly safe to assume that both the offense and pitching staff will have things figured out and clicking when October comes around.

If not, though, the Dodgers chances of winning a third straight World Series will diminish greatly.
