Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayWhen Kevin Gausman was traded for two minor league prospects, fans were baffled by the move. But ever since prospect Brett Bateman was called up to the big leagues, he's brought life back to the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 24-year-old made his debut with the Blue Jays on Aug. 7, and in his first MLB at-bat against the Philadelphia Phillies, he hit an impressive double off ace Zack Wheeler. The Blue Jays also own a 3-2 record since his call-up, and they now sit 2.5 games out of a wild-card spot.
Bateman is hitting .273 with six hits and three RBI, and he's already gained praise from manager John Schneider, who claimed that ''he's been a great add.''
While his promotion came quickly, it has been a huge win for the Blue Jays as the team has demonstrated urgency, which is something it has lacked this season.
Bateman has also already showcased in his very short time in Triple-A Buffalo that he has the tools to be an elite defender in center field, as he made an unbelievable catch that caught the attention of many. So when Luis Urias landed on the 10-day injured list, Bateman made the most of his debut. With the departure of Daulton Varsho, it not only provided an expanded role for Myles Straw, who has made a significant impact, but it also allowed Bateman to develop into the Blue Jays' next star center fielder.
Brett Bateman, on his first week with the #BlueJays: "It's been unbelievable, not anything short of it. It feels like I've been here for a few years, honestly. The fans, the team, the org, they just have a bunch of trust in me."

With the way Bateman has been performing, it doesn't feel like he's only been playing with the Blue Jays for a week. After just three games in the majors, he was moved to the leadoff spot on Aug. 9, and it was well deserved considering the immediate impact he has provided.
Schneider has already noticed several compelling factors about his approach at the plate that have shown signs of how he's already developing into a solid contact hitter.
"I like the zone control, I like the contact ability and I like what’s going on between his ears. You never know when you’ll find a dude. It’s whatever handful of games, but he has the potential," Schneider said, per MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.
Bateman has been a refreshing addition to the Blue Jays following the lack of production from Varsho. While fans are still getting over the loss of Varsho and Gausman, Bateman has given them something to smile about.
In the Blue Jays' 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, Bateman provided a clutch RBI single to tie the game at three apiece with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bateman has fit in well with the Blue Jays clubhouse, and we've already witnessed him making friends with Kazuma Okamoto in the dugout.
