West Bromwich Albion have under two weeks to go until they kick off their Championship campaign against Norwich City at Carrow Road in Norfolk.

The Baggies have already moved quickly to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window with the additions of Barney Stewart, Jimmy Jay Morgan, Conor Townsend, and Nolan Galves.

Morgan and Stewart have both scored during pre-season and look to be exciting additions to James Morrison's attacking arsenal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Galves, who has been signed from Ligue 2 side Rodez, has arrived at The Hawthorns as more of an unknown, though, and it remains to be seen how he will settle in to life in England.

Why West Brom need another right-back

The Baggies currently have two out-and-out left-back options in Conor Townsend and Callum Styles, but that is not the case for the right-back position.

George Campbell and Alfie Gilchrist are both capable of filling in at right-back when needed. However, they are hybrid options who have moved over from centre-back to do a job in that position, which means that they are not natural right-backs.

West Brom should be looking to bring in another right-back who can provide Galves with genuine competition for his place in the side, particularly given that this is set to be his first season of English football.

The Frenchman provided seven assists in 32 Ligue 2 matches for Rodez in the 2025/26 campaign, but it remains to be seen if he can carry that threat over to the Championship as he has no prior experience in England.

For example, Galves lost 63% of his aerial duels in the second tier of French football last term and the physicality of the Championship may catch him out at first, which is a concern to begin with, which is why they may need more competition for his place.

West Brom could beat Wrexham and West Ham to Premier League defender

Bringing in another right-back who has already proven themselves in the Championship to compete with the French defender could be the way to go, and the Baggies are said to be battling West Ham United and Wrexham for a star who fits the bill.

The Baggies, Wrexham, and West Ham were all recently linked with an interest in Manchester City right-back Issa Kabore, who spent last season on loan at Ryan Reynolds' side.

It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old full-back is available on loan or on a permanent basis, but he could be a terrific addition to Morrison's squad as an upgrade on Galves.

West Brom should push to beat the Hammers and Wrexham to the Premier League speedster's signature, after his impressive displays in the Championship last term.

Particularly if the City full-back is available on loan, Kabore would be a phenomenal signing for the club to add much-needed competition and depth in the right-back position for the upcoming season.

In the 2025/26 campaign, the defender played 30 times for Wrexham on loan in the Championship and showcased his quality both in and out of possession for Phil Parkinson's team.

He was as creative as Galves was in Ligue 2, creating as many 'big chances', whilst being more dynamic as a dribbler and offering more defensive quality and physicality to his side.

The West Brom target has already proven that he can provide a big threat as a creator from right-back in the Championship, assisting eight times, including twice on his debut against Norwich City.

It is easy to see why Wrexham are keen on bringing him back to the Racecourse and why the Hammers have set their sights on him after coming down from the Premier League.

Kabore is a rapid full-back who clocked a top speed of 35.6 km/h in the league last term, whilst Galves' top speed in Ligue 2 was 34.5 km/h, suggesting that the Burkina Faso star would offer more pace and dynamism down the flank.

The City right-back's aerial prowess, winning 62% of his aerial duels, is another reason why he would be an upgrade on the Frenchman, as he is more likely to defend the back post and defend set-pieces effectively in the second tier.

It is now down to Morrison to push the club to strike a deal for the 25-year-old talent before Wrexham or West Ham can get a deal over the line, as he would be an even better option than Galves at right-back.
