Photo: Peter BabaLeBron James’ decision to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers is the latest setback in the Golden State Warriors’ long-running search for another superstar to play alongside Stephen Curry.
The Warriors reportedly viewed James as an ideal fit after the two stars won Olympic gold together with Team USA in 2024.
Golden State has also pursued players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis and Jaylen Brown in recent years, but none of those efforts resulted in a deal.
Instead, the franchise’s biggest acquisition has been Jimmy Butler, who is expected to miss significant time after suffering a torn ACL.
Although another major move failed to materialize, Curry offered a reminder that speculation rarely guarantees results.
“That’s why you don’t envision anything until it happens,” Curry said. “There’s a lot of moving parts.”
