Wang Cong says she has 'regrets' over her UFC 332 loss against Natalia Silva

Wang Cong couldn’t leave Salt Lake City as a UFC champion this past Saturday, and she thinks she could’ve done things differently.

Cong challenged Silva with the vacant women’s flyweight title up for grabs. Shevchenko relinquished the gold as she hasn’t recovered from an injury as quickly as she had hoped. Cong and Silva went the distance inside the Delta Center. While Cong had a late surge, it wasn’t enough in the eyes of all three judges, who scored the fight for Silva.

Now that Cong has had some time to reflect on falling short of UFC gold, she took to her Instagram account to admit that she’s switch things up with a do-over.

“Thank you for supporting my friends,” Cong said. “The game is lost, what a pity. I have some regrets then because of the first game. The eye was poked in the second half. The line of sight is blocked, and then I couldn’t see it when I was poked in the right eye in the first game. Wait until later to slow down, it’s too slow to enter. Where to fall, get up, go back and summarize yourself. Come on, try again.”

UFC CEO Dana White told reporters after the event that Cong would be upset with herself for not being more aggressive sooner. It appears White may have been correct.

Cong entered UFC 332 on a four-fight winning streak. Her last defeat was to Gabriella Fernandes back in Nov. 2024. Cong defeated Tracy Cortez, Eduarda Moura, Ariane da Silva, and Bruna Brasil to earn the title opportunity.

Whether or not former champion Shevchenko will be healed in time to fight Silva next remains to be seen. “Bullet” warned Silva not to celebrate for too long as she will be looking to get the 125-pound gold back when she’s cleared.

Do you think Wang Cong will ever get another UFC title fight again, or was this her one and only chance? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
