Valentina Shevchenko’s coach has provided an update on her condition after she was forced to vacate the UFC women’s flyweight title.

As we now know, Valentina Shevchenko has been ruled out of her UFC 332 title fight against Natalia Silva. Instead, she will be vacating the championship due to injury, and Wang Cong will be stepping in to take her place and compete for the gold next month.

Valentina Shevchenko has had quite the run in the promotion up to this point, and while fans weren’t exactly thrilled about the overall quality of the proposed UFC 332 card, this is certainly a big blow now that we don’t get to see her compete.

In a recent interview, Valentina Shevchenko’s coach Pavel Fedotov had the following to say about what the future holds.

Valentina Shevchenko’s coach discusses her injuries

“We were supposed to fight on October 3 against Natália Silva, but due to an injury to the ligaments in the shoulder and back, we decided not to push things and postpone the fight,” Fedotov told Ushatayka.

“Given that the recovery will take a long time, we’ve made the decision to temporarily vacate the belt, and once she recovers, she will fight for it again.”

Injuries happen all the time in mixed martial arts but at this stage in her career, this is a real setback for Shevchenko. Thankfully, regardless of what happens between now and her retirement, we can all agree that she has already cemented herself as one of the greatest female fighters of all time. For now, all she can do is sit back and wait to see how the rest of the division unfolds in the next twelve months.
