Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAn extra carrot has been dangled for Tyson Fury ahead of his mega fight with Anthony Joshua, set for December 11 at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff.
Fury and Joshua will finally square off after almost a decade of debate over who has been this generation’s premier heavyweight from the UK.
Though both are nearing the end of their careers and have largely made way for a new school of champions, the main event promises to be the biggest in British boxing history.
Given there is no rematch clause, the victor will have the opportunity to either bow out on a major win or test himself against another heavyweight in the division.
Fury has now been tentatively offered the chance to fight for the WBO world title by Daniel Dubois, who beat Joshua in 2024 via fifth-round knockout.
Speaking to Sky Sports, ‘Dynamite’ Dubois – repped by Fury’s long-term UK promoter Frank Warren – welcomed the idea of another all-British clash.
“Yeah, what a fight that would be [against Fury]. What a fight. Just like me and AJ all over again – that sort of magnitude. That’s what boxing’s about, really, and Frank [Warren] would love it. He’s got both of us.
“I’ve got to come through my next fight and anything’s possible.”
Fury is currently ranked at number 2 with the WBO, and the sanctioning body is yet to name a mandatory for Dubois.
The big-punching Londoner won the belt from Fabio Wardley in May in a Fight of the Year contender, stopping the Ipswich man in the eleventh round after being down twice himself. The rematch takes place this month at London’s O2 Arena.
Fury has previously described both Dubois and Wardley as a level below him. The 38-year-old has only expressed interest in a trilogy with Oleksandr Usyk – who has beat all three of the British heavyweights mentioned above – though the WBO belt offered by Dubois may change his mind.
If everything plays out that way, it could in fact be a unification bout, as the WBA has reportedly granted Fury and ‘AJ’ to fight for its vacant ‘super’ heavyweight title, despite having a ‘regular’ champion in Murat Gassiev who expected to be upgraded.
