Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua did indeed have some banter in the first promotional push for their Dec. 11 fight in Cardiff, but they were also quite cordial at the end of their staredown.
The two iconic British heavyweights were present inside the British Airways Arc in London for the kickoff press conference to hype up their long-awaited grudge match. The general consensus was that Fury vs. Joshua should’ve taken place several years ago, but the buzz remains palpable.
During the press event, Fury talked about being the most unlikely heavyweight to ever capture a world title and defying the odds to achieve that goal on more than one occasion.
Tyson Fury: “I stand here as the most awkwardly built world heavyweight champion in the history of sport.”
Anthony Joshua: “It’s true what they say.”

“I’m just living proof that if you believe in yourself and you work hard and you dedicate your life to something, then no matter what you look like, what build you are, what background you come from, you can achieve anything,” Fury said. “Because I stand here today as the most awkwardly built world heavyweight champion in the history of the sport. I’m a bald, fat, bearded, ugly, slow, ponderous, all of the above. Whatever people want to say, but at the end of the day I get sh*t done.”
Joshua was quick to throw in a short dig at Fury following the inspirational message.
“It’s true what they say,” Joshua quipped.
Never one to hold his tongue, Fury had a backhanded compliment for his adversary.
“And then you got this guy here, he’s carved in stone like Olympia, made of marble, every time he gets cracked on the jaw he falls over,” Fury fired back. “That’s also true.”
The exchange entertained fans in attendance, but it wasn’t all verbal jabs. At the end of their face-to-face encounter, the two heavyweights shared a rather friendly moment on stage.
Fury vs. Joshua is set to air live on the Netflix streaming platform. “The Gypsy King” made his Netflix debut back in April, defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov via unanimous decision.
