Jett Williams, IF/OF, Milwaukee Brewers (Triple-A Nashville)

Williams has made four Top 101 lists, and he seemed like a logical fit for the Brewers’ collection of undersized, annoying on-base mavens when they acquired him last offseason for Freddy Peralta. But he’s stagnated at Triple-A and continues to have issues staying on the field. Williams managed just 81 games this season while dealing with a wrist injury. That could be in part responsible for his sub-.400 slugging percentage—and commensurate below-average damage rate and 90th-percentile exit velocity—but Williams now finds himself buried pretty deep on the Brewers’ depth chart. The middle infield is well established now with Brice Turang and Cooper Pratt, and Milwaukee will eventually need to find spots for Jesus Made, Luis Peña, Josh Adamczewski, and Andrew Fischer. You quickly run out of infield (and outfield) spots in the near-term. Williams played mostly third base this year, but his arm isn’t ideal there, and his contact rate, while good, is buoyed by a very passive approach. The risk was always that Williams wouldn’t have quite enough oomph to take advantage of his extreme pulled flyball approach, and that bore out even if you give him somewhat of a pass for the wrist issue. I’m not completely out on him, but he may need yet another change of scenery as he might not even be a top ten prospect in the admittedly quite deep Brewers system. —Jeffrey Paternostro
