After 588 days as UFC interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall is now undisputed.

UFC CEO Dana White made the announcement following UFC Baku: Jon Jones had called them on Friday (June 20, 2025) and told them he was retiring. That cleared the way for the patient Brit Aspinall to finally be declared the full UFC heavyweight champion.

“Jon Jones called us last night and retired,” White said. “Jon Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the heavyweight champion of the UFC.”

Aspinall uploaded a clip of White saying this to his Instagram reels alongside a promising caption.

“For you fans. It’s time to get this Heavyweight division going,” he wrote. “An active Undisputed Champion.”

That’s in direct comparison to Jon Jones, who won the vacant heavyweight title in March 2023, defended once in November 2024 following a pectoral muscle injury, and then sat on the belt for seven more months. That’s not a lot to show for his 840 day reign as champion, and many now expect his lasting legacy at this weight class to be his refusal to fight Aspinall.

We’ll have more comments from new undisputed heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall soon.

“What’s my reaction? This evening, 7 p.m. U.K. time [2 p.m. ET],” Aspinall teased in another Instagram post. “I’m going to react to becoming UFC undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”

Keep it locked to MMAMania.com for a recap on everything Tom Aspinall has to say about becoming champion and missing out on fighting Jones.
