Named after the largest oak tree in the UK’s New Forest, the forthcoming Rune Knightwood is the second model from the small British brand. It’s a lightweight gravel frameset with timeless touches and a more accessible price point than their flagship Rufus Stone.
Offered in five sizes (XS to XL) and built around a 650B wheel size, the Knightwood sports rim brakes, a 1″ threaded headtube, quick-release axles, and horizontal dropouts for easy singlespeeding. It has mid-trail geometry and a slightly shortened rear end with 425mm chainstays at the center position. The head tube angle is 72 or 72 degrees, depending on size, and the seat tube angle is 72 degrees. It has a 55mm fork rake, 380mm axle to crown, and 65mm bottom bracket with a 68mm English threaded shell. The front and rear spacing is 100 and 132.5mm, respectively. It’ll fit up to a 650B x 48mm (2.1″ tire).
Rune describes the Knightwood as a “clean, simple canvas, highlighting the fine details that inspire you to make it truly your own.” Much like the Brother Mr Wooden, the Knightwood benefits from long-established standards, meaning there are nearly infinite options for building it up with a unique mix of inexpensive components. To that end, Rune says it’s designed for riders who value performance and longevity, adding, “Like the mighty oak itself, this bike is made to endure.”
The Rune Knightwood will be available in late August, with pre-orders expected to open around the end of next month. Framesets will be priced at £800 ($1,075 USD). For now, you can subscribe for updates at RuneBicycles.com or follow them on Instagram.
