Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayTeremoana Teremoana has another challenger in front of him Wednesday on the Gold Coast, but the bigger challenge for Matchroom may be getting people outside Australia interested in watching him knock out another overmatched heavyweight.
Teremoana weighed 121.17 kg (267.1 pounds) Tuesday for his 10-round main event against DeAndre Savage, who came in considerably heavier at 134.55 kg (296.6 pounds).
Savage brings 11 knockouts in 11 victories, but this still looks like another showcase for the 28-year-old Australian rather than the competitive step up his career needs.
Eddie Hearn has spent considerable time selling Teremoana as a future heavyweight champion and complaining about Australian heavyweights who don’t want to face him. The promoter can only carry the promotional load so far.
Teremoana had an opportunity to help sell Wednesday’s main event after Tuesday’s faceoff and wasn’t exactly overflowing with promotional material.
“Oh, I just seen another opponent standing in front of me,” Teremoana said. “We train 6 days a week, twice a day to prepare for this, and I’m just about to put all the training to work come tomorrow night.”
When Ben Damon asked what viewers would see, Teremoana initially replied, “We’re going to see two heavyweights fighting each other for the main event,” before finally offering, “someone’s going to get put down.”
That reserved personality wouldn’t be an issue if the matchmaking were creating the intrigue for him. Against Savage, Teremoana is again being placed in a bout designed largely to highlight his power.
Another quick knockout will maintain his perfect stoppage run. What Teremoana needs soon is an opponent capable of making people wonder if that run will continue.
