Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason has filed for a domestic violence restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, Marilyn Maritza Melo Rodriguez, according to TMZ.

The filing alleges multiple incidents involving physical violence, threats and property damage. Eason claims Rodriguez punched him in the face with a closed fist, destroyed approximately $92,000 worth of his designer clothing by pouring bleach on it, and had a friend call him with threats to “break both of my legs” and “kill me.”

Eason is requesting protection that would include all California arenas where the Rockets play, according to the report. The allegations have not been proven in court, and Rodriguez has not publicly responded to the claims.

The situation comes as Eason prepares for a significant season financially and professionally. The 25-year-old forward is entering the first year of a five-year, $81.4 million contract extension with Houston that includes a player option for the final season.

Eason has developed into one of the Rockets’ key two-way contributors since being selected No. 17 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. In four NBA seasons, he has averaged 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks in 221 games.

The 2025-26 season saw Eason appear in 60 games, including 34 starts, while averaging 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 25.8 minutes per game. He shot 41.6% from the field and connected on 35.8% of his three-point attempts, averaging 1.6 made threes per game.

Defensively, Eason has been a major part of Houston’s identity since entering the league. His combination of size, athleticism and versatility has allowed him to guard multiple positions, while his rebounding and defensive activity have made him a valuable rotation piece.

During the 2024-25 season, Eason posted career highs in scoring and offensive production, averaging 12.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 57 games. He also shot 48.7% from the field and 34.2% from three-point range.
