Manchester United were reportedly interested in signing the Argentina defender Nicolas Tagliafico during the summer transfer window.
They needed more depth at full-back, and the South American could’ve been a handy option. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that his name was discussed at the club towards the transfer deadline, but Manchester United eventually decided not to proceed.
Clubs like Juventus and Atletico Madrid were also interested in the player.
Nicolas Tagliafico was considered by United
Fabrizio Romano has revealed: “There was [a] kind of secret name discussed internally at Manchester United.
“That name was Nico Tagliafico. Tagliafico was under consideration at Manchester United.
“Also, Juventus and Atletico Madrid tried to sign him, but it was not possible on deadline day; it was too late.
“But Tagliafico was also under consideration at Manchester United. Then they decided not to proceed, so it was United’s choice not to advance anymore.”
Tagliafico has shown his quality with the Argentina national team, and there is no doubt he can succeed at Manchester United as well. He could have been a very useful short-term option for them. Manchester United need more depth in the defensive unit, and it remains to be seen whether they decide to bring in the necessary reinforcement in January.
Man United still need left-back depth
Manchester United also had other options to improve the left-back department. They were heavily linked with Lewis Hall from Newcastle United. There is no doubt the youngster would have been a far better option than Tagliafico, and he is a tremendous talent with a bright future.
Manchester United secured a top-four finish last season, and they will look to build on it this time around. It remains to be seen whether they can do well in the domestic competitions and impress in the European outings as well.
