The Toronto Raptors have added guard Malachi Smith on a contract that is expected to be a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 training camp deal.

The agreement will give Smith an opportunity to compete for a place on Toronto’s regular-season roster. It also gives the Raptors the option of converting his contract into a two-way deal.

Smith spent last season with the Brooklyn Nets, appearing in 15 games. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 8.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists while playing 23.9 minutes per contest.

Brooklyn waived Smith during the offseason as the organization worked to create additional salary-cap space for several roster moves.

With Smith joining the team, Toronto now has 17 players under standard or training camp contracts.

The Raptors are also waiting on the proposed trade involving Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick for Kawhi Leonard. If that transaction is finalized, Toronto would gain another available roster spot.
