Cris 'Cyborg' Justino walks out for her fight against Larissa Pacheco

A lot of discourse around Cris Cyborg continually mentions that her storied mixed martial arts career is coming to an end this weekend, with one of the biggest stars of Professional Fighters League weighing in on the purported swan song of the MMA icon. Ketlen Vieira is standing opposite the legendary combatant inside the Smart Cage at PFL Tampa on August 22nd. Cyborg was set to defend her PFL featherweight crown, but Vieira missed the contracted limit of 145 pounds by a margin of seven pounds.

Dakota Ditcheva is the referenced fighter who has given her two cents on this massive matchup and did so during the PFL San Diego fight week earlier this Summer when Bowks Talking Bouts touched down in California. Also, curiously enough, earlier this year, Cyborg was drumming up some conversations about possibly calling out Ditcheva for a super fight, despite Dakota Ditcheva being a flyweight fighter.

When asked for her thoughts on that Cyborg vs. Vieira clash, which was officially announced during the PFL San Diego fight week near the end of June, Ditcheva said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Yeah, what a great fight. When I saw that they’d signed Ketlen [Vieira], I was like, “Wow, that’s one way to to let Cyborg go out.” You know, it’s a great fight. I think PFL did a great thing putting them two together.”

Cris Cyborg contemplates continuing her MMA journey as she enters free agency

Cris Cyborg seems like she’s mulling some things over with whether or not she will truly hang up the 4 oz gloves this weekend in Florida. While Cyborg has a chance this weekend to make history and become the first woman to notch thirty professional MMA wins, she might still continue to ply her trade in the sport beyond this weekend. Delving into a certain level of specificity with what her future could look like when the dust settles over the course of the weekend, Cyborg stated [via MMA Fighting],

“So when you ask me, it could be my last fight. You never know. It could be my last fight. Maybe the fight ends and I say, ‘That’s it.’ When you no longer have that fire inside you, then you stop. You have to stop at the right time. I always say, this could be my last fight, or it might not be my last fight. But I do know that this is the last fight on my PFL contract. After this fight, I want to sit down with my team and figure out what I want to do. I have some other dreams outside of fighting. I love what I do.”
