The New Orleans Pelicans have dismissed head coach Willie Green, making the decision after the team opened the season with a 2-10 record and dropped four straight games.
The organization elected to move on amid growing concerns about the team’s trajectory and lack of early-season competitiveness.
Recent reporting indicated that Pelicans governor Gayle Benson had granted front office leader Joe Dumars complete authority over Green’s future.
Benson had reportedly told Dumars that Green was to remain head coach at the time Dumars took over for David Griffin as head of basketball operations, but ultimately left the final call in Dumars’ hands.
Green compiled a 150-190 record over four-plus seasons at the helm in New Orleans.
During his tenure, he guided the Pelicans to playoff appearances in 2022 and again in 2024, earning respect for his player development work but struggling to produce consistent results in the win column.
