Nua Bikes is a Barcelona-based frame manufacturer specializing in custom-made titanium bikes. If titanium wasn’t unique enough for you, they also ditched traditional drivetrains for geared hubs, gearboxes, and belt drives.
One of Nua’s more popular offerings, the Silice gravel bike, recently had some work done. While not a complete facelift, the updates to the Silice provide a more modern touch on tire clearance, improve ride feel, and provide more options for the rider.
Nua Silice Updates

First on the list of updates for the Nua Silice gravel bike is more tire clearance. Nua reworked the frame to fit 50mm tires, providing a more confident riding experience over technical terrain. This 50mm clearance, however, is for Silice frames without mudguards. For riders who want or need to run fenders, Nua recommends a max tire width of 45mm (this, of course, may depend on the mudguards you choose).
Nua also went with a new bottom bracket standard. New iterations of the Silice will see an oversized T47 threaded bottom bracket. The brand feels that a threaded bottom bracket eliminates the creaks and squeaks that can be so prevalent with press-fit bottom brackets. Also, the oversized T47, with its larger diameter, significantly increases Silice’s stiffness. This provides a more confident ride feel when descending, especially in corners, and a more efficient power transfer on technical climbs. A larger bottom bracket also means larger bearings, which tend to be more durable and easier to service.
Customers Choose

Moving forward, Nua will also provide customers with options for geometry. Nua will still have bikes with the geometry the brand designed and builds its frames around. However, they will also work with customers to provide fully customized geometry. This option is extended to the Silice and every other bike in their lineup.
Nua will also provide a choice between a gearbox or an internally geared hub on the Silice. Either option provides a cleaner, lower-maintenance option than a traditional drivetrain with a chain.
Customers choosing a gearbox have the option of a Pinion C1.12 or Ci.12 Smartshift. Pinion’s C1.12 is equipped with 12 gears and a 600% range. The Ci.12 Smartshift has the same gear range but with electronic shifting.
The Rohloff Speedhub offers a 526% range across 14 gears. This internally geared hub option provides a traditional bottom bracket look for the Nua Silice.
Finally, every bike from Nua is fully customizable. Those looking to create a genuinely unique titanium gravel bike can hop on Nua’s bike builder to choose from a wide array of component options. Pricing for the Silice Rohloff starts at € 5200 (~$6,040), while the Silice Pinion C1.12 starts at € 5800 (~$6,737).
