Orgo-Life the new way to the future

All 30 first-round picks from the 2026 NBA Draft have signed their rookie contracts, but nine second-round selections remain without deals.

Karim Lopez, the No. 21 pick, completed the first-round signings when he officially joined the Memphis Grizzlies on July 29.

Meanwhile, Richie Saunders, Braden Smith, Tyler Nickel, Bryce Hopkins, Lajae Jones, Vsevolod Ishchenko, Narcisse Ngoy, Trey Kaufman-Renn and Malique Lewis remain unsigned.

Some may not sign NBA contracts this season. Ngoy could return to Auburn and become a domestic draft-and-stash prospect, while Ishchenko and Lewis are candidates to continue playing overseas.

Saunders’ situation is complicated by the ACL tear he suffered in February and Memphis’ crowded roster.

The Grizzlies could initially place him on a two-way or G League deal before potentially giving him a standard contract later.

Indiana recently created a two-way opening by waiving Ethan Thompson, which could clear the way for Braden Smith, who was previously expected to sign such a deal.

Nickel’s future is less certain, with conflicting reports about whether he will join the Knicks or return to college for another season.

Financial considerations are also important for teams near tax and apron limits.

A second-round rookie on a minimum contract carries a $1.36 million cap hit, significantly below the $2.45 million charge for a veteran minimum player.
