Newcastle United have entered contention to sign Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, following a fresh update on the midfielder's future at Selhurst Park.
Wharton, who has played 99 matches for Palace, amassing one goal and 12 assists, is expected to leave the club in 2027, should a top club come in for him.
That is according to former scout Mick Brown, who said: "I've heard there is a sort of informal agreement in place, and if a club like a Man City or Real Madrid come in for him next summer, Palace won't stand in his way.
"We've seen similar from Palace in the past, they think he's going to have a very bright future, so they're going to hold on to him for as long as they can, but they'll let him go and flourish."
Newcastle perhaps wouldn't have the same pull as the aforementioned clubs, but if they were able to get a deal done, the central midfielder could be a fantastic addition to Matthias Jaissle's squad.
Crucially, the former Blackburn Rovers man is already proven in the Premier League, despite still being very young, at just 22-years-old, and he received very high praise from journalist Eduardo Hagn during the 2025-26 campaign.
This season, the Englishman has remained a key player for the Eagles, starting all three of their Premier League matches thus far, and an average of 12.7 line-breaking passes per 90 is the second-highest number in Pierre Sage's squad.
The Palace midfielder's work-rate is another added bonus, covering a total of 34.4km in the Premier League this season, which is more than any current member of Jaissle's squad.

As such, the four-cap England international could flourish at St. James' Park, and the Magpies have now joined the packed race for his signature.
Newcastle enter contention to sign Adam Wharton
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, which states Newcastle have entered contention to sign Wharton, but there could be competition, with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea still keen.
However, with the maestro still under contract until 2029, Palace remain in a strong negotiating position, and they are expected to hold out for at least £75m.
The Magpies are waiting for clarity about his future, but there is a belief they will 'become active' if a deal ends up being possible, as they view the Crystal Palace's prized asset as the perfect addition to their midfield.
However, with Wharton keen to test himself at the highest level, Newcastle will have to have a much better season if they are going to stand a chance of securing his signature.
