After spending huge money in the summer transfer window, it was vital that Leeds United made a positive start to the season to match the ambitions demonstrated by the hierarchy.

Daniel Farke was crying out for added reinforcements this summer, which led to the 49ers splashing over £90m on new additions for the 2026/27 campaign.

The likes of James Trafford have already made an immediate impact at Elland Road, as seen by his debut clean sheet against Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the Premier League season.

However, the same can’t be said for another summer arrival, who is starting to become a scapegoat within the fanbase in Yorkshire after his recent struggles after his move.

How Wilson has struggled since joining Leeds this summer

After finally completing his long-awaited move to Leeds this summer, supporters in Yorkshire were undoubtedly excited by the possibility of Harry Wilson starring for their football club.

The Welsh international netted 10 goals and laid on seven assists in the Premier League last season, with the fans at Elland Road hoping that he can emulate such success upon such a move.

However, it’s safe to say the 29-year-old has endured a tricky start to life under Farke, subsequently failing to register a goal or an assist in any of his first three league games.

His underlying stats also showcase his struggles, with the Welsh international ranking lowly compared to other players in his position for the 2026/27 campaign to date.

Wilson has only registered an average of 0.7 shots per 90 this season, none of which were on target, subsequently placing him in the bottom 7% of all forwards in the division.

He’s also completed just 14% of the crosses he’s attempted, which also ranks him below 85% of players in his position across England’s top-flight this term.

It’s certainly early days into his career in Yorkshire, but Wilson already has a huge task on his hands if he is to win the supporters over with his performances at Elland Road.

He could have benefited hugely had the club kept hold of winger Jaidon Anthony, after the Englishman spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Elland Road.

The 26-year-old may have only netted twice in his 38 appearances that campaign, but he’s since taken his career to the next level - even starring in the Premier League.

He only registered one fewer goal than Wilson in England’s top-flight last campaign, but managed to do so despite featuring in a team which suffered relegation.

His subsequent efforts earned him a move to Brentford during the recent summer window, once again handing him the opportunity to star in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.

During his own three games of the new campaign, Anthony has managed to outperform the Welsh international - subsequently producing numerous impressive stats within forward areas.

The Bees star has registered an average of 2.8 shots per 90 so far this term, with such a figure placing him in the top 20% of all attackers in the league to date.

Such a figure is four times higher than that of the Welsh international, subsequently showcasing the bigger threat he offers within the final third of the pitch.

The Englishman has also created more chances per 90 this term, subsequently laying on 3.5 for his teammates every game - also placing him above 94% of talents in the division.

Anthony’s dominance in attacking areas is further reflected in his two-times-higher cross completion rate - which often sees those around him benefit from his incredible attacking output.

There’s no denying the winger’s temporary spell at Elland Road was a disappointment, but it’s safe to say he’s taken his career to the next level in recent years.

Wilson has been unable to match the former loanee over recent weeks, with the 29-year-old having an uphill battle to prove Farke’s men made the right call in securing his signature.
