Player health is expected to become one of the NBA Players Association’s biggest priorities under executive director David Kelly.
After a wave of Achilles injuries during the 2024-25 season, Kelly said the union wants more research into injury prevention and is open to reconsidering the league’s ban on in-game wearable technology.
He emphasized, however, that any data collection should be focused solely on player well-being rather than commercial interests.
“Not wearables for the sake of gambling. Not wearables and data that’s for the sake of exploiting it, monetizing it, necessarily,” said Kelly.
“But wearables for the sake of improving player health so we have better games and better players.”
