Financial ramifications typically have a tremendous impact on how the Milwaukee Brewers construct their roster. That may not be the case ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Brewers owner Mark Attanasio would be willing to pick up the entire amount owed to pitcher Tarik Skubal as part of a trade. Should Skubal be dealt on deadline day, that price tag would be approximately $9.4 million.

The Brewers have already been willing to take on salary in the right deal this season. They covered approximately $2 million of pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.'s salary as a way to acquire pitcher Colton Gordon. It is possible that the Brewers could take on other salaries as well in the right deal.

Tarik Skubal would be the difference-maker Milwaukee Brewers need

Skubal, however, is in an entirely different class of pitcher. The two-time defending AL Cy Young Award winner has posted a 2.79 ERA and a 0.910 WHIP over his 96.2 innings, striking out 116 batters with 14 walks.

Skubal would give the Brewers a formidable trio atop the rotation. NL Cy Young Award favorite Jacob Misiorowski has been utterly dominant and is cementing himself as one of the best starters in baseball. Kyle Harrison had emerged as a solid second starter before landing on the injured list due to left forearm tightness and may be on his way back to Milwaukee after a strong rehab outing on Thursday.

The Brewers have made a splash ahead of the trade deadline to bolster the rotation before, landing CC Sabathia in 2008. They rode Sabathia's left arm to their first playoff appearance since 1982 that season as he started 17 games, with his final three starts coming on three days' rest. While the Brewers may not need to ride Skubal as hard as they did Sabathia, he could make a similar impact as they look to win their first World Series title.
